What Is Happening?!

I was listening to a talk show on the radio this morning and there were a few issues being discussed, but the one that troubled me most was "Effurun high court sentences a 24 year old student to death by hanging for stealing mobile phone and recharge cards". There was another case of armed robbery by an okada man but his was not a death sentence. Now, the difference between the two robbers was that the student was armed with a real gun while the okada man was with a toy gun so therefore the student must be hanged.

I began to think and ask.."What of those that have been stealing billions and trillions and getting away with it?". "Did the boy shoot anybody?", "Was it a murder case?", "Did he physically harm her?", "What if the boy was the son of one of a top person in this country, would it have been the same verdict?" and I can't but wonder what really is happening in this country anymore, does this type of thing happen only in Naija?

I remember some months back, someone was sentenced to death for stealing beverages up north...JUST FOR STEALING BEVERAGES OOO!!!!!! Are human beings so cruel? I'm sure he stole it because of hunger and don't get me wrong o, I'm not saying the act of stealing is right just because one is hungry, but at least a measure of punishment should be meted out to the offender at least for the act in itself...but death? I feel that's too much if you ask me.

Those that are at the hem of affairs continue enriching their pockets with the wealth of the masses for their 10th generations to come are still walking freely and nothing is being done to them. God is soaking their cane inside kerosene o! So many atrocities are being committed and those who have connections get away with it and the unfortunate ones get slammed with "unfair" verdicts...sad. Many other stories and happenings here and there...how many can we talk about?

I pray God orders our steps and lead us aright in all that we do because if person waka miss, police carry you say you dey waka like wanderer and na police cell you go find yourself, then dem fit talk say dem catch you dey tiff and na kirikiri person fit find himself/herself and if you no get person to come bail you, na O.Y.O you dey and that may be the end of your story. Sadly, this is the type of world we find ourselves today...God help us!

Have a blessed day ahead!

  1. It really is a big shame. I also think its harsh to give the death sentence, but lets look at it critically, he had a real gun. He "may" have used it if he felt threatened, and it would have been another story.
Babes, does soaking the cane is kerosene make it more painful? lol

  2. Yes o, it is more painful. Lol. Meanwhile he "may" have used the gun but didn't. He robbed a woman of her phone and recharge cards, he didn't kill her. If he had used the gun, it would be fair to give him death as the verdict but he didn't and I think the verdict should be given based on what he did and not what he could have done.

  3. True talk Ema! For the fact that the boy was armed, anything could have happened. Who knws how many lives he had taken before he was apprehended?....I don't think the verdict is very harsh. All armed offenders must be treated as dangerous. They are usually nervous and unpredictable. If u ask me, all ARMED robbers deserve death sentence (irrespective of who dem sabi for top) SHIKINA!!!

  4. i also listened to it, 1st of all, u cant blame the judge cos d constitution doesnt have that flexility. it says, if you r armed? weada its with a blade, bottle, gun or watever, its d same judgement. what is stolen is immaterial. the intent is wat d judgement is based on. a very crazy loophole in our constitution.

wat bothers me here is that those who loot the treasury go free and even brag about it...
    WAT A NATION???
